Esta sétima edição do FotoRio - Encontro Internacional de Fotografia do Rio de Janeiro, foi também a primeira de uma nova fase: aquela em que o FotoRio deixa de ser um evento bienal para assumir periodicidade anual.

Assim, a cidade do Rio de Janeiro continuará atraindo para sua órbita, todos os anos, os grandes nomes da fotografia, incluindo os mestres do passado e os fotógrafos contemporâneos de todas as vertentes, correntes e especialidades. Ocupando desde os espaços nobres dos museus e centros culturais aos mais informais e alternativos, na busca de oferecer a todos uma perspectiva a mais ampla possível do fazer fotográfico.

Efetuada com sucesso a transição da periodicidade bienal para a anual, o FotoRio se lança, em 2015, em nova e empolgante aventura: a realização da edição comemorativa dos 450 anos de fundação da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Aniversário concomitante com o dos 175 da introdução da daguerreotipia no Brasil, justamente por intermédio da “cidade maravilhosa”. Duplo momento de celebração e reflexão acerca da fotografia, misto de arte e técnica, de brinquedo e instrumento de transformação social, que determinou a forma com que vemos o mundo e nos situamos em relação às suas agruras e esplendores.

This seventh edition of “FotoRio – The International Photography Meeting of Rio de Janeiro”, is also the first of a new phase in which the meeting will go from being held once every two years to becoming an annual event.

This way, the city of Rio de Janeiro will attract the biggest names in photography every year, from the masters of the past to contemporary photographers of every inclination, tendency and speciality. Filling the main galleries of museums and cultural centres as well as more informal and alternative venues, the event seeks to offer the widest possible perspective of photographic production to all.

With the transition to the new annual event successfully complete, FotoRio has launched a new and exciting adventure for 2015: a commemorative edition to mark the 450th anniversary since the founding of the city of Rio de Janeiro. This date also falls on the 175th year since the introduction of daguerreotype photography in Brazil, which started to emerge in the “Marvellous City” itself. This is a moment that calls for celebration and gives us the opportunity to reflect on photography, a medium that mixes art and technique, can be used as a both a toy and a tool for social transformation, and which determines the way that we view the world and place ourselves in relation to its hardships and splendours.
